Food Friday – Lao Baguette

A couple of weeks ago Nic, his parents and I went to Vientiane, Laos for a few days.  It felt great to be back in Laos and walking down memory lane.   It seemed like every turn ignited a memory from our trip 4 years ago when we were last in Vientiane but this time we got to share those memories and make new ones with Nic’s parents.

Including enjoying our favorite beer in South East Asia, Beer Lao!

Beer Lao wasn’t the only thing I was looking forward to in Laos, I was also looking forward to having a Lao baguette.

Lao baguettes are stuffed with pate, pork, salad and chilli sauce and would have to be the best sandwich in South East Asia.  This sandwich is generally a breakfast dish but we found it at the bus station and at various small restaurants around the centre of Vientiane throughout the day.    For Nic and I it was our breakfast everyday.

Baguettes and french pastries are plentiful in Laos and the bread actually tastes the way bread should – not loaded with sugar like in Thailand. I’m looking forward to going back one day to get another dose of the bread, beer and baguettes.
